Most abdominoplasties are performed under general anesthesia, although some surgeons will use local anesthesia combined with a sedative to make you drowsy.
For the first few days after surgery, your abdomen will be swollen and you're likely to feel some pain and discomfort, including significant tightness and muscle spasms in the abdominal region which can be controlled by prescriptive pain medication.
