Calf implant surgery is generally quite safe in the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon, but like all operations, it can occasionally be associated with complications. Though not common, some risks include:
- Infection that does not respond to antibiotics that could require a second operation or removal.
- Shifting, especially if activity is resumed too quickly before the implant is solidly healed in place.
- Muscle weakness, though extremely rare.
- Bleeding.
- Deformity of the implant as the body heals and scars around the implants.
