Facial implant surgery is generally quite safe in the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon, but like all operations can occasionally be associated with complications.
Though not common, some of the risks include:
- Infection (usually responds to antibiotics) that could require a second operation or removal
- Displacement (including shifting and rotation)
- Excess tightening of the scar tissue (capsular contracture), which may distort the implant
- Bleeding
- Nerve damage
