Breast reduction surgery is in some cases considered medically necessary reconstructive surgery and covered by health insurance, however, policy conditions may require that a certain amount of breast tissue be removed. Your surgeon can advise you. Check your health insurance policy. Have your surgeon write a "predetermination letter" if required.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) lists that in 1998 the average surgeon’s fee for the procedure was $5,471. The average fees in these selected states for breast reduction were: California, $8,194; New York, $6,567; Florida, $5,018; Texas, $4,678.
