Retainers: More to Know
Your speech may be affected when you first begin wearing your retainers. Practice by reading aloud and you will soon sound like your old self.

Some patients complain of the plastic taste of the retainers. Or the awkward feel of them. Give yourself time to get used to it. You will adjust--if you keep the retainers in your mouth.

How long will you have to wear that thing? It varies from a few months to a few years. And how many hours a day do you need to wear it? Again, it varies. But most retainers are worn constantly for a period of months, and then only during sleeping.

The main thing to remember is: It's up to you. Look how far you've come in your quest for gorgeous teeth! Allow your retainers to do their vitally important maintenance job. Follow your orthodontist's instructions on wearing and caring for your retainers--and you'll continue to have plenty to smile about!
