Collagen Treatment: Preparing for Treatment
Experts advise patients not to take aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for seven days prior to the treatment. Avoiding these drugs will reduce the risk of excessive bleeding or bruising at the injection site. Do not use any Retin-A type product or alpha hydroxy acid for two days prior to and two days after the treatment.

Patients with a history of herpes simplex of the lips who are receiving collagen in that area, may be asked to take an anti-viral drug such as acyclovir or Famvir three days before the injections to prevent an outbreak.

Collagen Treatment: Questions to Ask Your Doctor
When considering collagen, you may want to ask these questions of yourself:

  • Have I become dissatisfied with my appearance, in particular, lip lines, lip thinning, wrinkles or scars?
  • Would I be willing to have touch ups when necessary?
  • Am I looking for a short-term or long-term result?
  • Am I afraid of injections?

Ask your physician these questions:
  • How many times has the physician performed this procedure?
  • What kind of pain medication does the doctor use?
  • What kind of complications/side effects has he or she seen in practice?
  • Have I had the proper allergy testing?
