Collagen Treatment: Who Is a Candidate?
Doctors consider collagen treatments to be inappropriate for the following persons or conditions:

  • Pregnancy
  • Persons who are allergic to beef or beef products
  • Persons who suffer from autoimmune disease such as lupus
  • Persons allergic to lidocaine

If you have active skin infections or non-healed sores from an injury, you will probably not qualify for collagen treatment while the condition is present.

If you do not fit into these categories and have lines or creases that you would like to be filled out, collagen may be a good, albeit, temporary treatment choice. When performed by a competent physician, collagen injections provide a natural, smooth appearance. Patients often comment that they feel that they look rested and younger from the treatment.
