Hair Restoration: Risks
Complications rarely occur , but as with any surgery, hair restoration does pose certain risks.

Cosmetic-The results may be not what you envisioned, or what your doctor intended. The best way to prevent this is to select a surgeon whose skills and experience you have confidence in, and to talk in depth about what you can expect from the procedure before you make any decisions.

Blood Loss/Infection—As with any surgical procedure that involves cutting into living tissue, surgical hair restoration poses a slight risk of blood loss or infection.

Loss of Sensation—Some patients experience temporary numbness or, in rare cases, permanent loss of sensation on the donor scalp area.

Pain—Some swelling and discomfort is normal for a brief period following surgery. A very small percentage of patients report chronic head pain.

Permanent Hair Loss—Some hair follicles may not survive the move. However, this happens only rarely and to a minimal extent.

Scars—Although a skilled surgeon will be able to minimize or eliminate this risk, visible scars can result from hair restoration surgery. In transplants, these may occur in the donor area of the scalp where follicles were removed or over the grafts. Scalp reduction patients may develop slot deformity (an unnatural appearing dent in the scalp).
