Following surgery, you will be asked to bite on some gauze to stop the bleeding. Also, an ice pack will be applied to your face in order to keep swelling down. You can expect your gums to be sore for 7 to 10 days.
There may be additional soreness in the gums after the first surgery (but not the second), as the bone grows around the titanium posts. This soreness could last several weeks.
Most likely you will be given prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medication during this period. It is imperative that you follow your dentist's instructions.
If you wore a bridge or dentures before the first surgery, you may need to wait 7 to 10 days before they can be adjusted and lined with a soft material to eliminate pressure on the implants.
